Orlando, Fla. (March 8, 2021) – Avant Concierge Urology today announced it has added a new prostate cancer treatment option, Tissue Sparing Prostate Ablation (TSPA), to its lineup of innovative, best-in-class procedures offered in-office at the new Central Florida facility.
TSPA uses an FDA-cleared device and has been developed with the specific goal of treating prostate cancer while protecting surrounding tissue. Until recently, the two primary methods used to treat and remove prostate cancer were radiation therapy or a prostatectomy, which surgically removes part or all of the prostate gland. However, by going the route of the prostatectomy or radiation therapy, most men risk having to live with side effects such as erectile dysfunction, incontinence, and continual groin pain in the long-term that can truly impact their quality of life. TSPA offers an alternative to remove the cancer and leave the patient with far fewer side effects.
Avant Concierge Urology is proud to be one of the only medical centers in the country to have partnered with Youly Surgical to offer prostate cancer treatment via TSPA. During this procedure, which can be accomplished in-office in less than an hour under light sedation, the medical team uses focal therapy, a technique that destroys any small cancerous tumors inside the prostate while leaving the remaining gland intact and sparing most of its normal tissue. The result is less downtime, fewer – if any – long-term side effects, and the ability to eradicate cancerous cells while affording the patient the ability to go back to living his normal life, cancer-free.
“For far too long, patients have been told there are only two, fairly invasive treatment options for prostate cancer, and both of those options come with side effects that many men – and the people who care about them – do not feel comfortable with,” said Dr. Sijo Parekattil, Medical Director of Avant Concierge Urology. “By going the route of Tissue Sparing Prostate Ablation, we are able to remove the cancer, yet still give patients the quality of life they are looking for.”
Dr. Parekattil has long been considered a pioneer in the field of urologic microsurgery. He is one of the founding board members of the Robotic Assisted Microsurgical & Endoscopic Society (RAMSES), an international organization in which he is still heavily involved. He has received numerous awards including two Annual Innovator Awards from the Cleveland Clinic Foundation as well as the Golden Garland Award in Medicine.
Founded to meet a need among urology patients looking for a more personalized approach to care, Avant Concierge Urology recently opened its flagship clinic in Orlando, becoming the most technologically advanced in-office urology practice in the United States. Under the expert leadership of Medical Director Dr. Sijo Parekattil, Avant Concierge Urology specializes in vasectomy reversals and vasectomies, testicular / groin pain, male infertility, enlarged prostate / BPH, kidney stones, elevated PSA, bladder problems, and more.
